US Banking for Danish Founders: Mercury, Relay & Wise Business (2026)

    Wyoming Experts EditorialApril 21, 2026Updated:

The Wyoming LLC is only useful if you can actually receive money into a US bank account. For Danish founders in Copenhagen and Aarhus, that means Mercury, Relay or Wise Business — with a small role for Payoneer in specific edge cases. This is the practical 2026 breakdown of what each option actually gives you, what onboarding looks like from Denmark, and where each one breaks.

The three defaults for Danish-owned Wyoming LLCs

After hundreds of onboardings, the ranked default for a Danish owner is:

    1. Mercury — for SaaS, agencies, consultancies and content businesses with recurring US revenue.
    2. Relay — for founders who want multiple sub-accounts, envelope budgeting and native Xero/QuickBooks depth.
    3. Wise Business — for anyone who moves significant volume between USD and DKK regularly and wants transparent FX.

All three onboard Danish-owned Wyoming LLCs 100% remotely from Denmark. No CPR-nummer, no SSN, no US trip.

Mercury — the default for Danish SaaS and agency founders

Mercury is a tech-forward business banking product operated in partnership with Choice Financial Group and Column N.A. It is not a bank itself; the accounts sit with the partner banks with FDIC pass-through insurance. The user experience is polar-opposite to any Danish corporate bank you have used: fast onboarding, a good API, virtual and physical debit cards, and clean integrations with the US SaaS billing stack.

For a Danish owner, Mercury shines when:

    • Your primary revenue is Stripe US, Chargebee, Paddle, Rewind or a similar SaaS billing platform.
    • You expect US clients to pay by ACH or domestic wire.
    • You want to hold USD and only convert to Danish krone on your own schedule.

Mercury does have a country risk list. Denmark is not on any restricted list — Danish beneficial owners with a Denmark address are onboarded routinely. Where onboarding stalls, it is almost always because the business description is vague, the projected volume is unrealistic for the stated business, or the Operating Agreement was missing. We fix those upstream.

Relay — when you want structure inside the account

Relay is a business banking product built on Thread Bank. Its edge is inside-the-account structure: up to 20 sub-accounts, envelope-style budgeting, and unusually deep native integrations with Xero and QuickBooks Online. For a Danish agency owner who wants to segment client retainers, sales tax reserves and payroll into separate sub-accounts without spinning up multiple bank accounts, Relay is often the better product than Mercury.

Onboarding is similar to Mercury but usually 24–48 hours longer end-to-end. FDIC coverage is provided via Thread Bank; virtual and physical debit cards ship internationally to Denmark.

Wise Business — when FX is the whole game

Wise Business is the strongest option when a large share of your P&L runs through USD ↔ DKK conversions. You get local receiving details in 10+ currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, and more), mid-market FX with a transparent fee, and multi-currency balances inside the same account.

Where Wise Business is weaker vs Mercury: no true ACH origination for outgoing US payments in the same way, thinner integration with US SaaS billing tools, and no lending/credit-card products. Many Danish founders end up with a two-account stack: Mercury for US-side operations, Wise for cross-currency movement and paying international contractors.

Payoneer, Payhawk and other edge cases

Payoneer works if your revenue is dominated by marketplace payouts (Upwork, Amazon KDP, Fiverr) — but it is not a substitute for a real US business bank account for enterprise ACH or Stripe US. For a Danish founder building an enterprise pipeline, Mercury or Relay is the correct choice; Payoneer is complementary at best.

Exactly what you need to send us to trigger onboarding

    • Scanned Danish passport (color, all four corners visible, min 6 months validity).
    • Proof of address in Denmark: utility bill, bank statement, or a folkeregister extract (last 90 days).
    • A short 2–3 sentence business description in English — what you sell, to whom, and rough price points.
    • Expected monthly incoming and outgoing USD volume for the first 12 months.

We do not need your CPR-nummer for the LLC, for the EIN or for Mercury/Relay onboarding.

Timeline from a Danish kitchen table to a live USD balance

    1. Day 0 — you sign the onboarding form and pay for BASIC or BASIC + IRS Filings.
    2. Day 1–2 — Wyoming LLC filed, Filing ID issued, Registered Agent activated, Operating Agreement drafted.
    3. Day 2–4 — EIN issued by the IRS (SS-4 international line).
    4. Day 4–7 — Mercury or Relay onboarding application submitted with the full documentation set.
    5. Day 7–14 — account approved, virtual debit card issued, first USD wire can arrive.

Most Danish clients go from payment to live USD balance in 10–15 business days. The determining factor is almost always how quickly you send the documentation set, not any Denmark-specific friction on the US side.
