Wyoming LLC Banking for Peruvian Founders: Opening a US Business Account (2026)
Banking is where the plan meets the process. A Peruvian founder in 2026 has good options for opening a US business account remotely — but they aren't identical, and the KYC teams have opinions about how the application is filled. Here's what actually works.
Why a real US account matters
Without US banking your LLC is administratively hobbled:
- Stripe payouts have to route through intermediaries at worse FX.
- Customers who wire to a Peruvian BCP account see a red flag for a US-named vendor.
- You can't easily separate business and personal cash — the exact behavior that preserves the LLC's liability shield.
The three accounts that consistently approve Peruvian founders
Mercury
Still the default in 2026 for a Wyoming LLC owned by a Peruvian resident. Cleared use cases: SaaS, agency services, e-commerce (non-restricted), consulting, digital products. Declined use cases: crypto trading, marketplace-only businesses without a US customer base, adult content, high-risk MCCs.
Wise Business
The workhorse alternative. USD, EUR, GBP, PEN and 40+ currencies, local US routing/account numbers, integrates with Xero. Not technically a bank but functionally sufficient for most solo Peruvian operators.
Relay
Growing in adoption. Supports multiple sub-accounts inside one LLC (useful for setting aside SUNAT reserves separately from operating cash), integrates cleanly with QuickBooks.
Documents to prepare
- Wyoming Articles of Organization, stamped.
- EIN letter — CP-575 original or 147C reprint from the IRS.
- Signed operating agreement.
- Peruvian international passport (not the DNI).
- Proof of address within 90 days — utility bill, bank statement, or SUNAT correspondence.
- Business website URL, in English or bilingual.
Filling the application without triggering manual review
The single most impactful improvement to your approval odds is a specific, one-sentence business description in English. Not:
"Consulting and services."
But:
"We provide bilingual customer support outsourcing to US e-commerce brands, invoiced monthly by retainer."
Underwriters can approve the second in a day. The first sits in review for weeks.
Address hygiene
Use your actual Peruvian address. Do not use the Wyoming registered agent's address as your personal address — banks cross-reference the Articles, EIN, and application. Mismatches slow approval by a week and can trigger decline.
Moving PEN into the LLC
The clean capitalization sequence:
- Transfer PEN from a Peruvian bank (BCP, Interbank, Scotiabank) to Wise Personal.
- Convert PEN → USD inside Wise at the mid-market rate.
- Send USD from Wise Personal to the LLC's US account, labeled "Member capital contribution".
Record it as equity in the LLC's books. Sloppy labeling causes cleanup work at year-end.
Pairing the account with Stripe
Stripe onboarding requires the EIN, the LLC's exact filed name, and the US bank routing/account number. Do not enter your Peruvian bank account — Stripe payouts should go to the LLC's US operating account. First-transaction payout holds of about 7 days are standard for new accounts and not Peru-specific.
SUNAT and information exchange
Peru is a participant in the OECD Common Reporting Standard. US financial institutions report certain accounts under FATCA. Assume SUNAT can see, in aggregate, that a Peruvian resident holds a US business account. This is not a reason to hide it — it's a reason to declare it properly. A local accountant who handles foreign accounts can save far more than they cost at this stage.
If you get declined
Wait 30 days before reapplying at the same institution. Refresh the business description, publish a proper website if you don't have one, and try a different institution in the meantime. Two-in-a-row declines almost always trace to the business description, not the applicant's country.
Ongoing hygiene
- Download monthly PDF statements — some banks purge them after 24 months.
- Move 2FA to an authenticator app rather than SMS to a Claro or Movistar number.
- Never spend personal expenses from the LLC's account. Reimburse via documented owner draws instead.

FAQ
Can a Peruvian resident open Mercury from Lima?
Yes. The application is entirely remote and approves regularly for standard business models.
Is Wise Business enough alone?
For many solo founders, yes. Founders planning to fundraise or hire in the US tend to add Mercury or Relay as the primary operating account.
Does SUNAT tax money held in the US account?
SUNAT taxes your worldwide personal income. Whether income sitting in the LLC's account is taxable to you now depends on entity classification, distributions, and the facts of your operation. Get local advice.
